Description

The European Commission has recently decided to phase out mercury from all light sources. This means that T5 and T8 fluorescent lamps, compact fluorescent lamps and circular fluorescent lamps will disappear from the market in 2023. This will affect an estimated 17 million luminaires over the next five years. Since 2006, the EU has been gradually reducing the use of mercury, and now the rules are even stricter.

From 24 August 2023, no new T5/T8 lamps or compact fluorescent lamps may be sold in the EU. However, it is still possible to sell the remaining stocks and use the luminaires that are already installed. The reason for the change is that fluorescent lamps both contain mercury and are less energy efficient.

With high electricity prices, now is a good time to replace old T5/T8 lamps with energy-efficient LED solutions. This results in both lower electricity bills and a more sustainable future – an investment that pays off quickly!
